Car Crash Chiropractic Care

How Important is Chiropractic After a Car Crash?

CarCrashVictim-MyersChiropracticMillions of people in the U.S. are injured in car crashes every year…many in minor accidents that leave them with painful, long-term symptoms. Symptoms, that if not treated, could result in permanent disabilities.

A recent study published at the University of Washington demonstrated that ligament damage left untreated for two weeks becomes permanent.

Many studies show that rear end collisions at speeds as low as 4 M.P.H. can cause severe cervical (neck) soft tissue damage.

Why is there so much injury at low speeds with little or no damage to the car?

Human occupants feel the force of impact in 0.3 seconds. Human muscles take 0.6 seconds to react. By the time muscles react to protect the spine the damage is already done.

Although most severe injuries cause extreme symptoms, minor injuries like those in low impact collisions may cause little to no symptoms. Nevertheless injuries left untreated may have devastating consequences to your spine in the future. Minor damage to a ligament will cause a change in the motion of its associated joints. Over time spinal compensations may lead to pain and degenerative disorders. Chiropractic adjustments will improve spinal joint function to reduce your future risk.

Whiplash – a common car crash injury…

Whiplash, jarring  of the neck and head in any direction, is the most common injury associated with car accidents. Some of the symptoms that may come from whiplash are:

  1. Headaches
  2. Migraines
  3. Stiffness and painfulness in the neck
  4. Pain in the lower back
  5. Dizziness
  6. Reduced range of motion for the neck
  7. Pain in the shoulders and/or arms

Along with whiplash symptoms, other symptoms that may not be recognized as accident related are:

  1. Jaw pain
  2. CarCrashInjurySymptoms-MyersChiropracticDifficulty sleeping
  3. Irritability
  4. Feeling fatigued
  5. Leg and arm weakness
